Breaking Barriers, Period.

At Learning Space Foundation, we believe that a girl's education should never be interrupted by her biology. Our Menstrual Hygiene Management program is a crucial initiative to ensure that adolescent girls have the knowledge, resources, and confidence to manage their menstruation safely, hygienically, and with dignity, enabling them to stay in school and reach their full potential.

Why This Matters?

In many communities across India, menstruation remains shrouded in stigma, myth, and silence. This silence has serious consequences:

School Absenteeism

Lack of access to sanitary products and poor sanitation facilities in schools leads to girls missing 4-5 days of school every month, significantly impacting their academic progress.

Psychological Impact

Shame and embarrassment erode a girl's self-esteem and confidence, making her feel isolated.

Health Risks

Misinformation leads to the use of unhygienic materials like old cloth or ashes, increasing the risk of reproductive tract infections.

Our program directly addresses these challenges, turning a barrier into an opportunity for empowerment.

Our Holistic Strategy for Change

Comprehensive Education & Awareness

We conduct interactive and age-appropriate workshops for girls (and often separate sessions for boys to foster understanding and respect) that break the silence around menstruation. Topics include the biological process, debunking myths, and emphasizing that menstruation is a natural and healthy part of life.

Access to Safe Products

We ensure girls have access to reliable, safe sanitary pads. This involves distribution drives and educating girls on the sustainable use of different products, including eco-friendly options.

Improving Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Facilities

We advocate for and support the maintenance of clean, private, girl-friendly toilets in schools with facilities for changing and disposal, because knowledge without infrastructure is ineffective.

Building a Supportive Community

We engage with mothers, female teachers, and local community health workers to create a sustained support system for girls, ensuring the conversation continues beyond our workshops.

Creating a Ripple Effect of Confidence

9 out of 10 girls report feeling more confident and knowledgeable about their health.
